Milepost 26

This replacement milepost was cast as part of the second milepost replacement project and was sponsored and installed by JCB, on whose land it is situated. The post is situated in approximately the original location, near to what is now the second tee of the JCB golf course.

Please note that this location is only open to visitors at specific times by permission of JCB. Due to the location on a golf course it should not be visited by members of the public at any other time.

Milepost 25

Like milepost 24, the original milepost still exists, having been removed from its location within the JCB site when the factory was being built. It can now be seen on one corner of the bowling green in Denstone.

Milepost 19

Milepost 19 is the only original 1820 milepost in situ on the Uttoxeter Canal. It is situated on private land near to the former Moneystone Quarry and should only be visited by members of the public with permission from the landowners.

It is believed that milepost was last repainted in the 1970s.

Milepost 24

Milepost 24 is situated around half a mile north of Denstone beside the former Churnet Valley railway, and is one of the six reinstated as part of the CVLLP project. It stands in approximately the correct location but is presently facing the Staffordshire Way rather than the canal, as it would originally have done.

The post was reinstated by CUCT volunteers in June 2016. A plinth was added in November 2019, with the plaque to be fitted later.

Uttoxeter canal mileposts

The Trust has restored mileposts along the line of the Uttoxeter Canal as two projects. Posts in the section from Oakamoor to Denstone were restored as a Churnet Valley Living Landscape Partnership Project. From Denstone to Uttoxeter the replacement posted were funded by CUCT volunteers.

Milepost 23

Milepost 23 is situated between Alton and Denstone beside the former Churnet Valley railway, and is one of the six reinstated as part of the CVLLP project. It has been relocated to put it at the start of the section of towpath restored by the Trust, but would originally have stood a short distance behind its present location, facing the canal.

The post was reinstated by CUCT volunteers in June 2016. A plinth was added in November 2019, with the plaque to be fitted later.
