We aim to have a stall at a number of events around the area each year including the popular Etruria Canal Festival. We also give talks and walks from time to time.
Caldon Canal
The Caldon Canal opened in 1776 to carry limestone from the quarries at Cauldon Low to Stoke-on-Trent.
The section from Hazelhurst to Froghall reopened in 1974 after being restored by a partnership including volunteers from the then Caldon Canal Society, Stoke-on-Trent Boat Club and other community groups.
Uttoxeter Canal
The Uttoxeter Canal leaves the Caldon just before its terminus. It fully opened in 1811 and was closed in 1849.
The first lock and basin in Froghall were reopened in 2005, after restoration by a partnership including volunteers from the Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust, Inland Waterways Association and Waterway Recovery Group.

Sunday, 30th November, 2025 - 10:00am to 3:00pm Uttoxeter Canal work party at Crumpwood We are re-launching our regular work party volunteering days on the Uttoxeter Canal, starting on Sunday 30th November from 10am to 3pm. A great way to enjoy the beautiful Churnet Valley, have fun with friends and care for canal heritage. Work on this occasion will be vegetation clearance and repairs to the wooden edging of the towpath between Bridge 70 and Milepost 23. (Tools and materials will be provided.) View detailsWork party |
