Uttoxeter Canal March work party

Dear all

We have a work party coming up later this week on Thursday 14th March on the Uttoxeter Canal at Crumpwood. We will continuing the work we started last month, cutting back vegetation regrowth on the offside of the canal at Bridge 70. The photo below shows the area that we are working in. As you can see the weather was very kind to us and whilst I can't promise sunshine this time, I can guarantee a fabulous setting!

Uttoxeter Canal February work party

Dear all

For those planning to attend our work party tomorrow, please note that in a change to the information that was given out previously, we will be working in the Crunmpwood area rather than at Alton. The task will be to tidy and cut back vegetation along the line of the canal from Crumpwood Weir in the direction of Carrington's lock and Bridge 70. We have not worked in this area for a few months so it is a good opportunity to get our most important site looking good again.

Uttoxeter Canal update - December 2018

Dear all

I am writing this the day after another hugely successful weekend in the company of our friends from the Waterway Recovery Group. Over the past couple of days a team from WRG North West completed the clearance of fallen trees and larger vegetation along the remaining section of towpath adjacent to Alton Towers.

Uttoxeter Canal work party update - November 2018

Dear all

It's been a little while since my last newsletter, but that doesn't mean we have been inactive; indeed far from it. Over the summer months our volunteers have been working between Crumpwood Weir and Bridge 70, keeping this important site tidy and visible for visitors. The posts at Carrington's Lock have been finished and painted, so this area is looking much tidier, as well as being safer for South Staffs Water staff driving down the track to the water works.

Uttoxeter Canal - July work party

Only a very short note from me this month, to remind you that this month's work party is in a couple of days time. In a change from recent months, we are moving back to Crumpwood where we will be pulling Himalayan Balsam as well as cutting back vegetation regrowth at Bridge 70, Carrington's Lock and Crumpwood Weir. It would be great to have a really good turnout for this event, so please share the word to anyone you think might be interested.

Uttoxeter Canal - June update

Since our last newsletter our volunteers have been very busy. As well as the regular work party last month, we have recently run a work party for a group of young people on a Prince's Trust training scheme and last weekend - for the second time - we hosted a Waterway Recovery Group Family Camp at Crumpwood. This activity aims to involve children in a range of outdoor activities which they will find interesting and enjoyable, whilst delivering practical works to assist our project, and of course with a view to them becoming more involved in volunteering on the waterways as they get older.
